Abstract:
The historical street is the material carrier of urban culture and an important part of Urban morphology, and it has become an important driving force to activate the urban context with its unique value. Under the background of digital culture and tourism, the application of 3D virtual geographic environment provides a new perspective and visualization approach for the research of historical street spatial protection. Focusing on, quantifying, and finely analyzing the spatial perception of pedestrians on historical streets is an important means to enhance their spatial quality and vitality. This study is based on the pedestrian 5D theory and environmental behavior theory, and proposes a historical street pedestrian perception evaluation framework based on virtual geographic environment experiments, and applies it to the empirical study of the Gulangyu case. The research finds that: (1) In terms of physical dimensions, comprehensive streets have higher intentionality, traffic streets have lower transparency, and commercial and residential streets and lifestyle streets have relatively higher degree of enclosure and complexity. (2) The results of the behavioral mechanism between material environment and psychology indicate that factors such as street aspect ratio and openness are the main variables affecting psychological perception. (3) The optimization method of street space based on human psychological perception can accurately improve the quality of historical street space. This study verifies the effectiveness of virtual geographic environment experiments in evaluating pedestrian perception of historical streets, providing decision-making references for historical street protection and spatial optimization.
